REVERSING OUT OF A BAY

Driving elements (procedure)

Press the brake pedal firmly.
Shift transmission to Reverse.

Look: through the right windows, the left windows, and the rear window to make sure the way is clear.

Turn around, and look through the rear window in the direction you go.

Reverse straight and slowly until you can turn in reverse.

In a second, look through the windscreen.

Turning point

·       If you are between two cars, reverse straight until the front of your car clears the end of both cars, and then you can safely turn in reverse to face the direction you go.

·       If there is just one car alongside, and the way you go is free of cars (usually to your right), it is sufficient to reverse straight half the length of your car, and then you can safely turn in reverse.

Brake to almost full stop.

Turn the steering wheel fully to where you want the car rear to go.

Before turning in reverse, look again out the right and left windows (blind spot).

Turn around, and look through the rear window in the direction you go.

Turn in reverse.

Press the brake pedal firmly.

Shift transmission to Drive.

Turn away to drive forward.

Moving forward, steer to straighten the wheels.
