KERBSIDE STOP

If you are parking behind another car, stop when you can see only where its rear wheels touch the road (within 1-2 m).

Now that you are parallel to the kerb, if you are close to another car, crawl forward until from your seat you can see your bonnet has hardly “touched” its tyres. This way you will stop with the front bumper within 1 to 2 m to this car, and this distance is sufficient for you to steer out from behind the car in front without reversing.

1 to 2 m parking distance to another car is a requirement of ARR (r.208 (5)).

See PARKING section - PARALLEL PARKING for two situations when you should park closer than 1 meter, and farther than 2 meters from the car in front.

Press the brake pedal firmly.

Switch off the turn signal.

Your right foot should be holding down the brake pedal until you apply the hand brake and select Park gear.

Turn signal almost never switches off by itself when parking at the kerb.
